Carpenter's History

Carpenter's Inc. was originally started as a family partnership in Durham, N.C. in the year 1893 selling horses, buggies and general merchandise.

Automotive sales began in 1905 with numerous makes and models. Carpenter's was incorporated in 1935 as a North Carolina corporation doing business as Carpenter's Chevrolet in Durham until 1989 when the Carpenter family sold the franchise to the Hancocks of Gastonia, NC and was later sold to Rick Hendrick Automotive.

In April of 1992, Mark Carpenter purchased the already established franchise for RainSoft Water Treatment in the Durham area. Today, Carpenter's services 20 counties in central North Carolina from Greenville to Greensboro.

Since the first year of business, Carpenter's has been ranked among the top 10 RainSoft dealers for sales volume in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Carpenter family has been doing business in this same area of North Carolina for more than 100 years.

Mark Carpenter is the fifth generation of Carpenters who continues to maintain the highest level of quality business and ethical standards in our industry.

Carpenter's has been awarded the coveted "John R. Grayson Customer Satisfaction Award" for outstanding customer service every year since its inception.

RainSoft was founded in 1953 by John Grayson and has grown to be an industry leader in commercial and residential water treatment equipment. RainSoft is now established in 24 foreign countries and holds more than 75 patents covering its extensive line of advanced, premium water treatment systems and components.

Carpenter's is a longtime member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau on Eastern NC, the National Water Quality Association and the Durham Chamber of Commerce.
